Hillsborough County in Florida is most fortunate in having the facilities at Hillsborough Community College. This two-year college, established in 1968, is held in high esteem by the local populace. The college functions on five campuses in the county. They are at Brandon, Dale Mabry, Plant City, Ybor City, and MacDill AFB. More than 43,000 students attend, taking the opportunity to enroll for various degrees and programs.

It is unusual for a community college to have its own Residence Hall, as it normally draws candidates from the local area. In early 2008, Hillsborough Community College took the step of opening its first Residence Hall. Named Hawk's Landing, it was given the name of the college mascot. More expansion is underway for a new campus at Ruskin. Construction is on schedule and the new facility is expected to open in the summer of 2008.
